How to build an effective website

Nowadays there is no excuse to not have a website. Its expected that every company has one - and if you don't it may put potential customers off.

A lot of clients we have worked with in the past come to us for help because they think that website development is difficult. And yes - it can be. If you want a website with a unique look and feel then coding from scratch should be left to the professionals.

However if you want to give it a go yourself, then there are a number of website plans such as wordpress and strikingly that allow you to develop a website with set templates. You can develop your own style with set colours, fonts and images. We have helped lots of clients with their website and have put together what we believe are the 3 most important elements to consider in the planning stage.

1. Images

A picture can speak a thousand words - even better a video. Make sure you have professional looking images, and if you don't then look to purchase some stock photos.

2. Wording

People on the web read quickly. They just want to skim through so its important to get your message across quickly and clearly. When I started out I spoke to lots of experts for help - and the one thing they all told me was to cut my wording down by a half, and then half again.

Bullet points, bold lettering and differing font sizes are a must.

Extra tip - this is a fantastic website in helping you get your message across clearly and quickly. http://www.hemingwayapp.com/

3. Consistency

Make sure you keep colours, fonts and layout styles consistent ... otherwise it just looks messy and nobody likes that.
